Dal Makhani

A quick pressure cooker favorite.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 C black lentils (urad dal)
  • several bay leaves
  • 2 T garlic
  • 1 T ginger
  • 1 t salkt
  • 1/2 t turmeric
  • 1/2 t cordiander
  • 1/2 t garam masala
  • 1/4 t cumin
  • 1.5 C water

 

  • 1/4 C greek yogurt
  • 1/2 C cream

 

  • 1 t cumin seeds
  • 1 T tomato paste

Directions

  1. Wash lentils then combine the first set on ingredients into the pressure cooker and cook on high for 30 min.
  2. While lentils are cooking, combine the yogurt and cream.
  3. While lentils are cooking, gently fry cumin seeds in oil until fragrant and sputtering, then add in the tomato paste to cook briefly.
  4. When lentils are done, mash/break them up. The more you do this the smoother it will be. You may light it more chunky or smooth.
  5. Add in the the yogurt/cream and cumin/tomato mixtures and mix together.
  6. Serve over rice or with naan.
