Biscotti

Family recipe from Eunice Petito.

makes 3-4 loaves which is ~3 dozen

1/2 C melted crisco
1 C sugar
4 eggs
1/4 C milk
1/2 t salt
3 t baking powder

Traditional:
1/2 t anise oil and 2 t anise seed

Non Anise Lovers:
zest of one orange
1/2 C slivered almonds
1/2 t orange oil

Momma Younger’s New Perfect combination:
2 t anise seed (or a bit less)
1 t orange oil
Orange zest if you have a fresh orange

Beat the crisco, sugar. Then mix in the eggs and milk. Add the salt and baking powder. Add the flavor you wanted.
Then add enough flour to make a medium dough (~2.5 – 3 cups)
Then a little more flour to make nice loaves on greased pan. (the dough will be sticky)
Bake at 350 for 20 minutes.

Cool on a cutting board for a few minutes then cut them on a diagonal into biscotti shapes.
Put them back on the pan and bake for 10 minutes, then flip them over and bake for another 10 minutes.

Drizzle with chocolate for extra effect.

Enjoy!
