Adapted from a Cook’s Illustrated Recipe.
Ingredients:
- 8 slices of Challah
- 1.5 C milk
- 3 egg yolks
- 3 T brown sugar
- 2 T butter
- 1 T vanilla extract
- 1/2 t cinnamon
- 1/4 salt
Instructions:
- Its best if the Challah is a bit stale or dry. If you have fresh bread, dry it out in the oven. Bake slices in a 300 oven on a wire rack for 15 min (flipping half way through). Let cool.
- Combine the milk, eggs, sugar, melted butter, vanilla, cinnamon and salt.
- Soak each slice of bread until saturated but not so much that the bread is falling apart.
- Cook toast on a electric skillet, or non stick pan with a bit of butter. Adjust temperature such that it gets golden and warmed throughout but not burned.
- Serve with fresh fruit, maple syrup, and or powdered sugar
