French Coffee Cake

Ingredients

  • 4 C flour
  • 1/4 C sugar
  • 1 t salt
  • 1/2lb butter
  • 1 C warm milk
  • 3 egg yolks (save the eggs whites)
  • 1 T yeast
  • 1/4 C warm water

 

  • 1 C sugar
  • 2 t cinnamon
  • 1 C nuts
  • 1 C white raisins

 

  • powdered sugar
  • milk
  • almond extract

Directions

  1. Mix flour, sugar, salt in bowl.
  2. Cut in butter (as for pie crust).
  3. Add milk and beaten egg yolks and dissolved yeast. Beat well and chill over night.
  4. Prepare filling by mixing together sugar, nuts, cinnamon and raisins.
  5. Divide dough and roll. Spread whipped eggs white on dough.
  6. Spread filling on dough. Roll up as if for a jelly roll.
  7. Put in pans and let it rise until its doubled in size.
  8. Bake at 350 for 15 min, then 300 for 30 min.
